Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment + Smart Supplement Support for This Time of Year
At Kindred Brokerage, we believe long-term health protection includes both the right insurance coverage and smart preventive habits. This article is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice.
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment: You Still Have Time to Switch
If you enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan for 2026 and something doesn’t feel right — you are not stuck.
The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 – March 31) allows you to make one change to your plan.
You may want to review your coverage if:
- Your doctor is not in network
- Your prescriptions cost more than expected
- Your copays are higher than you were told
- Your hospital access changed
- Your dental or vision benefits aren’t what you thought
Important: You generally get ONE change during this period. After March 31, you’re typically locked in until the fall Annual Enrollment Period unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
If you’re unsure, we can review your plan at no cost.

Why I Also Talk About Prevention This Time of Year
Insurance protects your finances — but prevention supports your body.
Even in Texas, this time of year commonly brings:
- Lower Vitamin D levels due to less sun exposure
- Mild dehydration (many people don’t notice it)
- Lower energy and mood changes
- Increased immune stress
Here are a few simple fundamentals I recommend discussing with your healthcare provider.
1) Hydration First (It Matters More Than People Think)
Most adults are mildly dehydrated without realizing it.
A simple starting point:
👉 Aim for about half your body weight in ounces of water per day.
Why hydration matters:
- Supports circulation
- Helps energy and focus
- Helps joint comfort
- Supports healthy blood pressure and overall recovery
Before adding new supplements, get hydration consistent.
2) Vitamin D3 — and Why K2 Matters With It
Vitamin D supports:
- Bone strength
- Immune function
- Mood stability
- Muscle function
Many adults run low this time of year. If you supplement Vitamin D3, it’s smart to understand the “why” and the “how.”
How it’s typically taken:
- Vitamin D3 is commonly taken once daily with a meal that contains fat (it’s fat-soluble, so food helps absorption).
Why Pair Vitamin D with Vitamin K2 (MK-7)
Vitamin D can increase calcium absorption.
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) helps guide calcium toward bones and teeth and supports healthy calcium metabolism.
This pairing is often recommended to support:
- Bone density
- Cardiovascular health
- Proper calcium handling in the body
Important: If you take blood thinners or have kidney issues, talk to your healthcare provider before taking Vitamin K2 or higher-dose Vitamin D.
3) Daily Multivitamin (Basic, But Helpful)
A quality multivitamin can help fill common nutritional gaps.
How it’s typically taken:
- Once daily with food (often breakfast or lunch) to reduce stomach upset and support absorption.

4) NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)
NAC is commonly used to support:
- Antioxidant activity (glutathione support)
- Cellular health
- Respiratory support
How it’s typically taken:
- Many people take 600–1,200 mg per day, often on an empty stomach for absorption (but if it bothers your stomach, take it with a small amount of food).

If you have medical conditions or take prescription medications, especially blood pressure medications, ask your provider before starting NAC.
