.It’s that time of year again — Open Enrollment for ACA Health Insurance and Medicare.
And if you’ve turned on the TV, checked your phone, or opened your mailbox lately, you already know it: the noise is everywhere.
The calls. The texts. The scare tactics.
Everyone seems to be saying “Prices are going up! You’ll lose your coverage! You have to act now!”
Let’s take a deep breath — and sort through the truth.
💙 What’s Really Going On
Yes, it’s true — health insurance premiums are up this year, by about $13 per month on average.
But that’s not the whole story.
The reason for these changes isn’t greed or chaos — it’s adjustment. During COVID, the federal government expanded subsidies and tax credits to help millions of families stay covered through the crisis. Those programs had to be rebalanced as the economy recovered.
What we’re seeing now is the country finding its footing again — adjusting benefits and credits to reflect a post-pandemic economy.
That’s not bad news. In fact, it shows we’re recovering.
The Affordable Care Act’s income-based tax credits are still available — and they can make a huge difference.
Many South Texans are still qualifying for zero-dollar or low-cost plans.
And for our Medicare clients, there are still plans with dental, vision, hearing, fitness, and flex card benefits available — but coverage changes every year, so it’s always worth reviewing.
🩺 What You Need to Know
Here’s what matters most right now:
✅ Everyone has to re-enroll this year. Plans don’t automatically renew the way they used to.
✅ Premiums and benefits change annually. Even if you’re happy with your current plan, it’s smart to double-check what’s changing for 2026.
✅ Beware of scam calls. If you get an unsolicited call claiming to be from Medicare or “the Marketplace,” don’t give out personal information. Call me directly — I’ll verify what’s real.
✅ You still have time.
Medicare Open Enrollment runs October 15 – December 7.
ACA (Marketplace) Open Enrollment runs November 1 – January 15.
